Landsharks Win, Landsharks Win!

Game 7 Write-up: Hollins Wiffle Ball World Series

During a tension packed evening  the Landsharks used two seven run innings on a newly configured field to swim all over the Fillies 16 – 7.  We were able to catch up with manager Landon Moore to get his reaction, “ Oh, I knew we were gonna win the whole season.  Ya all know that scissors cut paper.  Well, that automatically means that Landsharks are tougher than Fillies.  Everyone know that.”  Most of the media is perplexed by Moore’s obscure and backwoods comments.

Rookie Pitcher Randy Polito had some of his best stuff last night but may be in trouble with the commissioner.  Apparently, Polito admitted to pitching with a cracked wiffle ball for several innings.  Who knows what this may do for the young South paws’ future.  We were able to find out what commissioner Dodd’s thoughts on topic, “This isn’t the first or last time we’ve had to fine Polito.  He is a loose cannon.  Speaking of cannons, we are looking for one”.

The Fillies left the field completely dejected.  “We just didn’t have our best stuff tonight.  I have to give credit to the Landsharks.  They played solid.  I’m just proud of all the Hollins women that played their butts off.  We had girls sliding, diving,  and knocking into people to win.  It’s a good sign that they committed to the season.  We need more of that kind of thing around here.  Now get that $#%^& camera out my face.”

We asked Commissioner Dodd if she was going to fine Coach Mannino for his Brandi Chastain impersonation in the top of the 5th after his run.  Her response, “Absolutely not.  Coolest thing I’ve ever seen”.

Please note that the Landshark’s  line up will be announced during halftime of the  September 29th basketball game.  They all better be there!

Fillies reel in two wins over Landsharks

Write-up: Games 2 and 3 Hollins Wiffle Ball World Series

On a temperature controlled evening in Upper Tayloe Gymnasium, the Fillies grabbed two victories over the struggling Landsharks.  The Fillies,  led by shortstop Erica Bruce, used solid defense and hot bats to wear down the Landsharks.  Bruce, a hot prospect out of Crownsville, MD,  resembled a vacuum cleaner in the field and her bat sizzled at the plate.  Bruce broke open game one after nailing a hanging curve ball through the gap into left field  resulting in  an inside the park grand slam.  The Fillies tacked on 4 more resulting in a 8 run bottom of the 3rd.

Left-handed pitching sensation, Coach Politio, had a close call in the bottom of the 4th when a scorching line drive sent him scattering off the mound.  Polito, a gritty rookie from the Central Florida area, toughed through the pain with a lot of encouragement from fans and players.  Actually, just a lot of humiliation and clapping.   After the game, we were able to catch up with one of the team’s  physicians, Dr. Kevorkian, to check on Polito’s condition, “Randy is a tough kid.  His left knee is still inflamed and tender.  I have prescribed a steady dosage of ice and relaxation.  If the inflammation continues, we’ll put him on a red eye to see Dr. Galea in Canada”, the doc explained.  Polito almost ended his bright career during a sledding accident at Wintergreen in the off season.  Team doctors and officials will certainly be keeping a close eye on one of the leagues’ most popular and highly paid players.

Game two turned out to be a closer contest.  The Fils did hold on for a 5 to 2 victory.  It was obvious that the Landsharks missed Coach Moore.

Landshark rally takes bite out of Fillies

Write-up: Game one of the Hollins Wiffle Ball World Series.

Kristin Norkus cleared the bases with a walk off home run to win the game for the Landsharks 10 to 9.  Norkus scorched an 0 2 slider to the left field gap off of southpaw hurler Randy Polito.

Every player reached base safely hitting the ball except for head soccer coach Landon Moore.  Coach Moore was hit by a pitch by the sometimes wild Polito in the bottom of the 3rd.  Coach Moore has been recovering well from the plastic splinter removed by the team physician on Saturday from his left hip.  His current status is day to day.

Polito is well iced and ready  take the hill for Tuesday night’s game against the Fillies.  Game time is 9pm.

January Term

J-term is one of the best times of the year on the Hollins campus. Most of the student body is off in a different part of the globe doing an internship, leaving those who are still on campus to enjoy a relaxing month to concentrate on just one single class. As you can imagine, there is a lot of time for other activities during this time. The next several posts will be about some of the J-term events that some of the soccer players are involved in.
